It's because it provides context to why black liberation activists have idolized Castro for decades. Castro used extreme levels of violence (murder, torture, imprisonments, secret police, etc) to intimidate the white Cubans into abandoning their lands and running to Florida for refuge. It was a very racist society the moral equivalent of the Jim Crow South and apartheid South Africa. Pre Castro Cuba was a military dictatorship led by the Baptista regime. Nelson Mandela was a huge fan and later became close personal friends with Castro. I don't know what Kaepernick's level of knowledge on Castro is, but many people on the left who are historically literate, especially within the black liberation movement, idolized Castro. The show has often said that Colin Kaepernick is uneducated and ignorant when he wore a Fidel Castro shirt. By stealing away these assets marxists like Castro believed they could construct a more equitable society. He wanted to seize the means of production (In Cuba's case the plantations). Castro had classic Marxist ideology influence his violence. Hitler's motivation for his violence was to exterminate demographic groups he considered subhuman. Personally I think that's an unfair assessment. The Cuban American community considered Castro the equivalent of Hitler. They believe that it's a naive to think rich people will ever agree to giving up a significant enough portion of their wealth for any substantial economic redistribution without violence. These people idolize Castro and Che Guevara. Leftists who believe that violence is justified if the motivation is to achieve leftist/Marxist goals (seizing the means of production from capital owners and giving it to the state/workers) are commonly referred to as 'tankies'. (Personally I think Castro's level of violence crossed the line and although I'm sympathetic to his motivations I'm bothered by the leftists that lionize him because he committed acts that modern ngos would classify as state/war crimes and he's a dictator.)
